April has been a great training block!
I’ve been plugging away in the water since my last update.
This has been a great training block. My primary coach, Alec Hayden, has us trying a new four-week training cycle that involves two weeks of heavy/accumulation training, one week of high quality speed work and then a final week of recovery that ends in races off the blocks. As of the time of writing this, I just finished the first cycle through that. I capped off the month of April with a 1:49.7 200m freestyle and 54.4 100m butterfly. That 200 free beats my season best of 1:51.6 from the January stop of the Pro Swim Series in Austin. The 100 fly was a solid time that is competitive with times I've gone in actual competition. After racing, I went to the weight room and landed a 245 pound power clean (my PB is 260lbs, but I haven't been chasing heavy cleans this season). I enjoyed this new format of training and appreciated the recovery week. The hope is to elevate the heavy training weeks by giving the body a chance to rest here and there.
Let me tell you about the other happenings of April.

What’s Happening?
Guess what? More yard work!
Audrey's and my parents all came into town to help us landscape, trim/mulch trees, grind stumps and other various projects. It was grueling work, but the yard looks amazing!
Wild Game in St. Louis
The Timberwolves and Wild have both advanced to the second round of the NBA and NHL playoffs, but before those started, I seized the chance to see the Wild when they were playing in St Louis. They lost the game, but were resting their starters for the impending playoffs. It was still fun to go and cheer them on.
Ohio LSC Beyond the Blocks
The Ohio Swimming LSC had myself and other big names out to Columbus, Ohio for a huge event. This wasn't just a normal clinic. We had a full day of activities including in-water technique, guest speakers, professional pictures and a talk-show hosted by Kieran Smith to cap it all off. The Social Kick Podcast was covering the whole thing, so be on the lookout for content they will be pushing out. Thank you to everyone involved, this was a huge success and will be a blueprint for future marquee events hosted by large swim clubs or LSCs.
Looking Ahead
Direct Travel Wellness Event
I will be a guest speaker at an upcoming Wellness Event for Direct Travel. I'm excited to share my experiences as a professional athlete with the whole team!
Mare Nostrum
I will be leaving for Europe on May 15th for the Mare Nostrum Swim Tour. May 23rd-28th I will be competing at the Monaco and Canet stops, but I will not be attending the final stop in Barcelona because my cousin is getting married. Travelling up and down the Mediterranean Coast for this signature series is going to be a blast. I will post broadcasting details and how to watch me race on my Instagram page.
I will be officiating my sister’s wedding in September (she was the Best Woman at my wedding... here we are watching Audrey come down the isle)
