Swimming Life Updates

Hi there!

Welcome back to another update on how professional swimming life has been treating me. A lot has happened since my last newsletter so keep reading to hear about the World University Games, spending some time decompressing and making the US National Team.

What’s Happening?

The World University Games took place in Chengdu, China from July 28 – August 8, with the swimming portion of the competition running from August 1 – 7. I had the honor of bearing the flag for the US delegation at the opening ceremonies with Olympic silver medalist Mary Tucker, who competes in shooting. We held the American flag in front of a crowd of 40,000 people... talk about some butterflies in my stomach (and a fierce grip on the flag pole)! The swim team also voted me as one of the team captains which meant a lot to me. The venue we competed at was phenomenal and the crowd electric. Before my 100 butterfly semi-final, the officials had us get down from the blocks because they wouldn't stop cheering! I got the opportunity to race on multiple relays and also finaled in the 200 freestyle (ultimately placing 5th). The racing experience I partook in will be indispensable for the rest of the Olympic quad, even though I fell short of bringing home any hardware.

Once I was back stateside, I spent some time in northern Minnesota to decompress from all the racing and traveling. This trip was highlighted by fantastic weather out on the lake, quality time with friends/family, and finding a new hobby in fishing. My grandpa's old 1966 Lund 16' fishing boat made it's way out of storage for the first time in 15 years. It has been a fun project to get it running again and learning how to fish.

The last several weeks have been mostly getting after it in training and some great news recognizing my hard work from this summer: Earlier this month I was named to the 2023-24 US National Team for my performance in the 200 butterfly! Things are heading in the right direction!

Looking Ahead

On October 6 – 7, I will be in Seattle for a clinic with the West Coast Aquatics Swim Club. I am pumped to share my knowledge with the next generation of swimmers and look forward to seeing the pacific northwest for the first time.

A few weeks later, I will be heading out for the Pan-American Games in Santiago, Chile. Swimming will be October 21 – 25.

Fun Fact: I have been learning to play guitar! Travel always gets in the way of my practice routine, but is something I look forward to when coming home.
