TYR Summer Champs and R&R

After a successful outing at the World University Games in July, I did a project with my dad, competed at the TYR Summer Championships in California and got some much needed R&R. Read about all of the happenings of August below!

What’s Happening?

I flew back from Europe to Minnesota where I got the opportunity to install a new swim platform on the stern of my family's boat with my dad. There were some hiccups along the way, as with any project, but it turned out great! I had a lot of fun working through this installation and enjoyed getting to spend the time with my dad.

I eventually flew out to California for the final competition of the 2024-25 season, the TYR Summer Championships. I wanted to reset my 100m butterfly and freestyle best times, but was a little off my game. In the 100m butterfly, I placed 7th with a 52.52, exactly a half second of my best time. After a 49.64 100m freestyle in the preliminary heats (0.64 away from my personal best), I decided to scratch finals and focus on the 200m butterfly the next day.

With the 2026 Pan-Pacific Championships team still up in the air, I wanted to put my best race together. I swam a solid 1:56.13 in the morning, but dropped to 1:57.76 in the evening to place second. My times failed to qualify me for the Pan-Pacs team. I have some relatives who live in southern California, so we grilled out at their house and caught up.

After a long year of driving and flying all over the place, I was content to spend a true vacation in northern Minnesota with no training or swim meet hanging over my head. Big Cormorant Lake is somewhere I can truly decompress. My friends and I took full advantage of the beautiful August weather of Minnesota.

Looking Ahead

On September 15th, I will be going to the University of Tennessee swim/dive team with Cejih to discuss personal branding and athlete partnerships.

When I returned to the St Louis office of Counsilman-Hunsaker, my co-workers had made a cake to celebrate my performance in Berlin and we all sang the national anthem together (poorly)!
